Lumagen Raises the Video
Processor Performance Bar with the New Artisan™ 8K Video Processor
A bespoke video processor intended for filmmakers to preserve their
vision, and for movie enthusiasts to see the image as the director intended.
Includes all the current features of the company’s Radiance Pro 4K series,
including the newest, namely compatibility with Dolby® LLDV™ and direct
control of Seymour-Screen Excellence’s masking systems.
Beaverton, OR — September 3, 2024 — Once again adding to its 22-year legacy
as the leader in the design and manufacture of video processing products for
home cinema, corporate, and studio markets, Lumagen today announced the
ArtisaN™ 8K video processor, created to bring AV image mastery into the home
cinema in 2025.
ArtisaN noun ar· ti· san 'är-t?-z?n
1: an expert distinguished by uncompromising dedication to their trade.
2: has both the creativity and the skill to make a functional and
distinctive product ensuring the highest quality standards.
3: master craftsman of fine objects.
Lumagen Artisan - the Master Craftsman of Image Science
As told by Lumagen president Jim Peterson, “Being Lumagen’s first 8K
processor, with ArtisaN, we embarked upon a completely new innovative
design. We hand-crafted the proprietary hardware, software and video
processing algorithms and have selected the finest components, 8K HDMI chips
and Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA). This all comes together to deliver
the best in-motion video, complementing the artistic craft of the filmmaker,
and delivering the best home cinema experience.”
The ArtisaN supports up to 8K60 and 4K120 inputs and outputs, including HDCP
2.3, HDR10, and HLG, and is compatible with Dolby® LLDV™ sources (new
feature) with eight inputs, two outputs, and a multitude of video
processing, setup, and calibration features. An evolution of Lumagen’s
commercial-grade Radiance Pro™ series, the ArtisaN includes all the current
features of the series, including their new ability to directly control
Seymour-Screen Excellence’s masking systems.
Peterson furthered, “The ArtisaN will continue to provide and even exceed
what Lumagen processors are best known for. This includes ongoing refinement
of our Dynamic Tone Mapping (DTM), which analyzes multiple regions of every
frame of content, detects scene changes, and optimizes the image for each
frame of content. Jon Thompson, a movie producer responsible for
post-production image quality at a major studio, recently evaluated the
Lumagen DTM versus the other options. He stated that ‘the other DTM options
used today are not even in the same league as the Lumagen.’”
“With 8K projectors and televisions, scaling quality again comes to the
forefront. The ArtisaN builds upon the foundation of the Radiance Pro series
as the industry’s best motion picture scaling that scores more than 20%
higher than the competition using the Tektronix PQA600C analysis software.
Lumagen’s scaling provides the best quality scaling for 4K, 1080, 720, and
SD, and with the ArtisaN, sources for 8K projectors and TVs. Scaling is also
essential for aspect-ratio control, especially when using an anamorphic
lens. In addition, the ArtisaN will have an edge-sharpening feature that
helps restore detail lost during compression of the digital content,”
pressed Peterson.
Like the Radiance Pro 5348, the ArtisaN uses circuitry to reduce HDMI output
clock jitter. Minimizing signal jitter is an extremely important criteria
for HDMI. The ArtisaN will produce an optimal clock to send to the audio
processor to minimize jitter at the DACs. Reduced jitter at the DACs reduces
distortion and significantly improves audio.
“The adaptability of the ArtisaN is second to none. Using FPGA technology,
the ArtisaN can add hardware image processing and setup features years after
installation to incorporate new features as technologies evolve, providing
the best image experience possible for our customers,” added Peterson.
Available in 2025, the ArtisaN will be manufactured in the USA to maintain
the highest quality standards, with a release price of MSRP (USD) $12,995.
Peterson says Lumagen will offer a generous trade-in program for customers
who currently own a Radiance Pro series video processor desiring to upgrade
to the ArtisaN upon availability. “Stay tuned for the ArtisaN Beta launch,”
concluded Peterson.
Lumagen video processing technology can be experienced in home theater demos
at the 2024 CEDIA Expo in Seymour-Screen Excellence’s Sound Room 4 and booth
4409, as well as Harman booth 2512.

jitter at the audio processor input.
Each Radiance Pro video processor is a custom designed commercial-grade
product, manufactured in the USA and engineered to be adaptable to
incorporate new features as technology evolves. This proven capability along
with free firmware updates and unparalleled customer service provides
Lumagen customers with years of the best home cinema video quality

Peterson, added “Because the Radiance Pro provides the industry’s best
processing for in-motion video content, it has become more than a home
cinema product. It has found its way into studio post-production suites for
use in video quality control for consumer releases, and for use maintaining
proper lip-sync using its Genlock feature. Image science is our passion, and
our products allow viewers to see what the director intended™. We are
excited that the Radiance Pro 4140 allows a broader segment of the home
cinema enthusiast market to enjoy the very best in video processing.

RadiancePro™
Configurations
Beaverton Oregon,
July 9, 2020 — Lumagen®, Inc., a specialist in the
design and manufacture of products for the home and corporate theater
markets, today announced the addition of the RadiancePro™ configurations to it's video
processor family.
We are excited to announce the Radiance Pro 4244 (six
input, two output), and the Radiance Pro 4246 (eight input, two output),

supports, but with only two outputs to keep cost down. The Radiance Pro
4244, and 4246, fulfill this request, and fill the price gap between the
4242-18G, and the 4446+. The 4244 and 4246 use the 444X main board, but
chips responsible for the additional two outputs, and PiP/PoP, are
depopulated to save manufacturing cost. So, as with the 424X models, the
4244 and 4246 will never support PiP/PoP.
The Radiance Pro 4244 and 4246 configurations are available for immediate
sale.

Lumagen Announces HDMI to CAT-6 Extender
June 30, 2010--- Lumagen, Inc. a leader in video processor technology is
announcing a new line of HDMI extender products. The first products in the
series are a HDMI to CAT-6 extender, and a HDMI to HDMI repeater.
Jim Peterson, Lumagen’s President, stated “We decided
to add HDMI extender products to our portfolio because we had so many calls
from our dealers about the failure of competitive HDMI extender products to
work reliably. Our HDMI extender products are designed to be the most
robust, and reliable, in the industry. Our HDMI extenders are already
proving themselves by solving HDMI transmission issues in systems where
other well regarded competitive products have failed.”
The HDMI-CAT6 extender provides buffering not only for
the video signals but also the DDC control signals, allowing reliable
transmission distances at 1080p60 of over 50 meters total distance from
source to destination. Many competitive products buffer video in the
receiver only, and have no buffering at all for the DDC signals used for the
HDCP/EDID interface. Lumagen estimates that about 1/3 of the support calls
it receives concerning the failure of competitive HDMI extenders relate to
the failure of the HDCP/EDID signals. To overcome this limitation Lumagen
buffers both the video and control signals in both the transmitter and
receiver boxes. This means the HDMI input cable to the transmitter box is
isolated and buffered from the CAT cable between the transmitter and
receiver which in turn is isolated and buffered from the receivers output
HDMI cable. This design increases the maximum reliable transmission distance
from the source to the destination device. Lumagen has demonstrated reliable
operation in the lab with 30 meters of HDMI 1.3 cable from the source to the
HDMI-CAT6 transmitter, plus 30 meters of CAT6 cable from the transmitter to
the receiver, plus a 2-meter HDMI cable from the receiver to the display, at
1080p60.
The HDMI-HDMI repeater can recover and buffer HDMI
signals using 30 meters of 22 AWG HDMI cable. Like the Lumagen HDMI-CAT6
product, the HDMI-HDMI repeater buffers both video and control signals,
maximizing reliable cable length.
The HDMI-CAT6 is in production and available
immediately. The HDMI-HDMI is slated for July production.
