About the updates: The most current firmware upgrade for the
RadianceXE/XE+/XE3D is shown at the top of the list below this section. You can
check your firmware revision by looking under "Info" on the menu or by
pressing "ok" on your remote when the menu is not up. The update can
be performed with a PC and a null-modem serial cable, such as the one
included with the unit. See the change log at the bottom
of this page for more details on the updates. All updates are complete and
contain everything from earlier updates so there is no issue with skipping
updates.
Running the update: (For more detailed instructions see the Tech
Tip on updating included in the zip file) Download the new update and unzip it. Connect
up your PC and your unit with a DB9-F to DB9-F null-modem serial cable.
Insure you have a stable power supply to the unit as there is a window of a
few seconds at the end when the flash is reprogrammed that if the power went
out it would then need to be reprogrammed at the factory--don't do it during
a lightning storm!
Turn the unit on. On the PC double-click (run) the downloaded utility.
Select the appropriate com port (check Device Manager/Ports) and baud rate
(57600 usually works well). Select the desired Update Method (Auto unless
you are attempting to reinstall the same firmware version and are having
problems) and click on "Start" when ready to begin. The utility will start
updating, which will take a few minutes. A download warning screen on your
display lets you know that the update is in progress.
The PC utility will finish and tell you when it’s done, and the RadianceXE
will turn off. Turn the unit back on, acknowledge any on-screen completion
message, and you are ready to continue using the RadianceXE.
If the utility finishes with an error (due to a communication error), just
turn the unit off and back on, and rerun the utility.
Note: All the configuration information is normally retained
during an update (unless otherwise noted in the update notes below) so you
usually won't have to write down your current settings or redo anything.

changes on input.
Update time ~3 minutes @57k
Production 120313-
Fix for some older HDMI/DVI
displays (particular case was a DPI Titan 250) not showing video
with last two firmware revisions (112513-120213).
Production 120213-
Fixed up an older bug (recently made worse
in 112513) which depending on equipment and settings could
intermittently (or regularly) result in delaying turn-on of
video output. Could be double normal output turn-on time and
feasibly even longer.
Production 112513-
Fixes audio issues seen that
could give noise or no audio with some equipment. Added a
shorter option for audio mute length under Input: Audio Setup:
Mute Control. The default is mute length is "Long" but options
include Short, Medium, and Long. Previously, the options were
only Short and Long which have now become the Medium and Long
values. Several small menu improvements and fixes. Small
improvement in input switching speed.
Production 102913-
Added 2 APL patterns to the Gray Window
pattern group. Added a custom window size and a custom window
size + APL pattern to the User Color window pattern group.
The 2 new patterns added to the User group use the RGB level
that are settable in the first 3 patterns. The custom sizing
allows setting the window size in .1% steps. The custom size +
APL pattern allows setting both the window size and an APL. As
you vary the size of the window the background level is adjusted
to give the desired APL. If it can't meet the requested APL, a
greater-than or less-than sign is displayed next to APL to
indicate this (.ie setting RGB=240,240,240, the custom size to
90.0% and the APL to 30% would give the greater-than sign next
to APL). Added rs232 access to the new patterns. The rs232
format for the new User size pattern is "ZY7TsSSSRRRGGGBBB" with
SSS being 3 digits (000-999) for 0-99.9% area of screen.
The rs232 format for the user defined size + APL pattern is
"ZY7TsSSSAAARRRGGGBBB" with AAA being 3 digits to be set to
000-100 for 0-100% APL.
Production 092113-
Fixes issue for some DVI displays not
working in 052813-091013 firmware. Small improvement to the
report generated by the rs232 input mode change command under
Other: I/O Setup/RS-232 Setup.

Cleaned up the output trigger options
settings and a couple of small bugs associated with them and
added an output trigger option for rs232 only.
Production 071613-
The 061813 revision did not completely
resolve the video loss with 3D, this new update does. Fix for
zooming and filling screen with letterbox input aspect on 2.35
output aspect display. Shortened HDCP unavailable onscreen
message to 3 seconds. Added 1080p25 output mode.
Production 061413-
Improved input handshaking with some
input sources--symptoms prior to this update were not getting
picture or correct audio format occasionally when powering on or
changing inputs.
Production 052813-
Improved output handshaking with some
problematic displays that would result in an HDCP message
without video sometimes or frequently.
Production 040613-

always working. Bugfix for audio settings and virtual inputs being forgotten when
updating from firmware earlier than 090412.
Beta 091112-
Fixes for a couple of issues occasionally
giving error conditions (onscreen corruption, blank screen)
while running a calibration involving a lot of rs232
communication. Added NLS support to new ZQI19 rs232 input aspect
status command. ZQI19 now responds with 0-8 corresponding to
1.33, Lbox,1.78,1.85, 2.35, NLS 1.33, NLS lbox, NLS 1.78, NLS
1.85. Other small fixes.
Beta 090712-
Bugfix for video/menu flaking out
infrequently but seen during prolonged use while calibrating.
Fixed output copy command for CMS to include 125 pt gamut data
and fixed an error that could cause configuration corruption
when performing an output copy of CMS data. New fpga in this
update for XD/XE for several systems having an issue with input
1.
Beta 090512-
Fixed CMS 8 point to 125 point conversion
bug (a certain CMS value could cause out of whack colors after
updating). Fixed the Save:Undo command for the new 125 point
gamut. Fixed issue of not showing a warning about configuration
changing after altering 125 point gamut. Added rs232 command to
report current input aspect, ZQI19 returns 0-4 which translate
to 1.33, Lbox,1.78,1.85 and 2.35 input aspects.
Beta 090412-
NEW 125 point CMS added! That's a
5x5x5 matrix for color correction and calibration. A big upgrade
from our previous 8 point matrix which allowed calibration from
only the corners of the color cube. The new 125 point gamut has
it's calibration points located at 0, 25, 50, 75,100% of video
min/maximums. The older 8 point gamut was located at digital
min/maximums which did not give quite as much precision.
Previous calibration values in the CMS gamut menu are
interpolated to the new gamut locations so the numbers displayed
in the menu will be different. This doesn't change your
previously performed calibration results. Instead, the changed
values represent the same calibration but from the new gamut
locations. You now have the option of calibrating with 8 or 125
points. If you perform an 8 point calibration you can change to
the 125 point mode and keep the previously set 8 points. The
other 117 points are interpolated from the original 8 when
changing from 8 to 125 point mode. With this many points to
adjust, auto calibration software from
SpectraCal and ChromaPure
really helps. They have both added support for our new 125 point
gamut with excellent results.
Note: We are in the process of
updating the Configuration Utility to support backing up the new
125 point gamut data to a PC via rs232. This should be available
by tomorrow.
Gamma correction: Range has been
extended and can now be adjusted in steps of .01. Test Patterns: Added 2.35
letterbox geometry overscan pattern. Bugfixes, etc: Problems
with Top/Btm 3D formats to Frame Packed and Frame Sequential
output was fixed. An issue of using test patterns with certain
settings not restoring the input aspect was fixed. Improvement
to output setup menu allows multiple changes within the command
to be performed more easily. Added sending 601/709 color
information needed by Darbee Darblets with firmware before
2.8.2214. Added a direct command to globally disable video on
output 1, "menu 0985". Other small fixes and improvements were
also made.
Production 031612-
A bugfix for HDMI & analog RGB sources
that sometimes could cause color to be slightly off due to an
incorrect 601/709 conversion. Added an input type (under Input:
HDMI Setup: Type) for undoing an rgb->ycbcr conversion error in
a source when done with 601 colorspace instead of 709.
Production 031112-
Bugfix that in a few systems would cause
Radiance to not show a picture or in some cases a much longer
wait to get a picture than necessary. This problem was occurring
after 011612 updates. Small menu issue with pip fixed.
Production 030312-
Fix for a couple issues that crept into
firmware over the past few months with using non-hdcp HDMI
sources and Radiance not giving a picture. Fix for output
masking use with side-by-side 3D output not showing right eye.
Fix for several 3D input formats being converted to frame packed
with judder and a fix for 3D top-bottom in & out. Fix for
issue in 030112 with test patterns not sized correctly when used
with vertically shrunk output picture. Other minor menu
improvements.
Production 030112-
Adds frame-packed and Top-bottom 3D types
to the output setup command so you can now go from any input 3D
type to any legitimate output 3D type you wish. Fixed Top-bottom
-> side-by-side 3D conversion. Added an indicator for test
patterns as to whether it's a reference pattern or adjustable
pattern (an A or R is shown). In the test pattern menu, pattern
commands were added (both adjustable and reference) that are
displayed in a user specified test mode. The test mode is
settable in this menu and the output mode, 3D type, CMS and
style are all specified. Bugfix for pattern commands sometimes
causing odd values to get entered in the color gamut for some
setups.
Production 013112-
Fixed an issue with 122x11-013012 firmware
that could cause 3D polarity issue or loss of genlock when
changing memories on an input in some situations. Some
improvements to operation with CRT 3D Glasses Sync Box. Added
rs232 command to delay rs232 command processing--so for instance
you could send the poweron command, wait 5 seconds, then put up
a message. The new command is "ZWxxx<CR>" and the delay xxx, in
milliseconds, can be up to 30000 for a 30 sec delay.
Production 012912-
Fixed warmup test pattern (broken in
previous update). Rearranged a couple of the newly added
contrast patterns. Added a video black and video white
fullscreen pattern after the newly added checker patterns in the
Contrast pattern group. Added access to the contrast patterns in
the 21 point grayscale command.
Production 012812-
Fix for an issue causing inability to set
mode correctly using the Auto output mode setting with certain
Panasonic displays. Fixup of issue with the output copy command
not working in some cases. Added a number of contrast test
patterns. BlkRamp has background at video black (16/255) with
static and flashing ramps of 0-31 with a large marker indicating
video black in the ramp. WhtRamp is similar with background of
video white (235/255). LowClip has static and flashing ramps for
gray, red, green and blue with all values ranging from 0-31.
HiClip is similar but around 235/255. Added checkerboard,
inverse checker and a checkerboard with center marks. Added a User window test
pattern group that allows entering r,g,b values. Added '1' key to test
pattern controls in order to cycle opposite direction through
patterns in a group from the '4' key. The rs232 test pattern
command format was adjusted for the new User window pattern. The
pattern is specified with 's' and the format for the rs232
command with this pattern group is 'ZY7TsSRRRGGGBBB'
where 'S' is defined to be 0-2 for medium, small, full
field size. 'RRRGGGBBB' is the rgb color value with 3
digits specified for each and a range of 0-255. An example
rs232 command for a medium, red window would be
"ZY7Ts0255000000". Some other small bugfixes.
Production 011812-
Some minor fixups and improvements to
input EDID functions. Now allowed to set up different video EDID
on input memories to aid with some multimedia PC issues. This
enables the user to change memories on the Radiance in order to
direct the PC to change video modes. Added "menu 7"
shortcut for quicker access to Quick Keys menu. Other minor menu
fixups and clarifications.
Production 011612 Modified
the newly added Lbox Crop command from previous release such
that the setting is common to all input resolutions for a given
input & memory. The command was also renamed to LBox Zoom and
you can now easily set it for all inputs/memories within the
command. Fix for PC input level setting causing video to flash
off/on. Improvements to switching input resolutions on a source.
Bugfix for issue with video judder under certain conditions.
Some improvements to Pip functionality.
Production 010312-
Added a setting to not crop '4:3 Lbox' or
'2.35' input aspects on a per memory & resolution basis. This
new setting can be found in the menu under Input:Video Setup:
RES: Size: ASPECT: Lbox Crop. The default is 'Normal' which
properly crops the top & bottom for these input aspects
depending on your display aspect. The 'Off' setting is useful
for theaters with top or bottom display masking systems. In
conjunction, the vertical shift setting is used to move the
image appropriately. Fix for Pip window placement with
certain 3D display modes.
Production 010212 Fix
for sometimes not setting Auto output mode correctly (.ie
selecting 480p instead of 1080p). Fix for not being able to set
input video/PC level in 120111-122311 firmware.

being displayed was fixed.
Production 101811 Bugfix
for a new onscreen HDCP error message showing up incorrectly in
revision 101711. Bugfix for analog Pip input having funny colors
or sometimes not being shown.
Production 101711-
Bugfix for previous update (101611)
causing analog inputs to sometimes not be displayed. Added new
capability for PC gaming with 2.35 screens. If you set up your
PC for a 1920x816/817 output resolution almost all current games
will render with a wider field of view. If you select 2.35 input
aspect on the Radiance with this type of input mode the
Radiance can then output it correctly on a 2.35 screen using
either anamorphic lens (Radiance output aspect set to 2.35) or
optical zoom (Radiance output aspect set to 1.78 aka 16:9).
Production 101611
Bugfix
for input menu when using Pip and pressing numbers to select the
Pip source. Improvements to auto input selection to avoid issues
with mode changing on the current source. Added reinterlacing
command options. Bugfix for issue with handling of timing
descriptors in some DVI displays. Improvements to "help" within
some commands. Some other small bugfixes.
Production 100511-
Improves auto input selection by allowing for an HDMI input to
detect a "turn on" event and switch to it (the auto input
selection command is in the menu under Other:I/O Setup:Auto
Select). Improved the Factory Reset command (under the
"Save" menu) to allow for more selective resetting of settings
(.ie all settings except CMS). Added configurable labels for
custom output modes. Added new 36bpp output mode for specialized
displays that can accept it via 2 inputs (new setting is found
in the menu under Output:Styles:StyleX:HDMI Format:Type).
Various bugfixes.
Production 090911 Due
to a bugfix first made in 090111 there was a slow-down on
acquiring video after a mode change which was most notable with
cable/satellite type sources. This update speeds it back up to
what it was before 090111 and may be a bit snappier then even
pre-0901 releases. Several bugfixes and improvements to pip &
pop including the ability to set the Pop background to a gray
level rather than black using the Output: Style: Graybar:
Top/Bottom level setting.
Production 090511-
Adds automatic input selection. This can be configured in the
menu under Other:I/O Setup:Auto Select. In this menu you can add
inputs to a priority list. This prioritized list of inputs is
used by the Radiance when the current input source is turned
off. The Radiance will then switch to the highest priority input
in the list and continue thru the list until it finds an active
video signal. If no active video is found it will wait ~8
seconds and cycle thru the list again.
Production 090111- Bugfixes:
Issue in 081411-082811 with scaling being turned on when it
shouldn't be in some cases. Issue with 1080i60 3D side-by-side
to 120hz frame-sequential mode giving juddery video. Issue with
some mode changes on HDMI inputs sometimes causing loss of
picture. Couple other small bugs fixed.
Production 082811 Adds
1920x1200@60 output mode. Doubles range of settable A2D gain
reduction on analog inputs. Synchronization fix for dual
projector 3D usage. Couple bugfixes.
Production 082111- Several
bugfixes for previous changes made in 081411 update.
Adds
ability to set gray level for the border created by shrinking or
masking the output. This border was previously always set to
black. Setting it to a gray level can be useful for some in
order to use the shrink /mask commands and avoid burn in on
large plasma displays. This new command is located in the menu
under Output:Styles:Mask/Shrink.
Added ability to enable rs232 reporting of
Radiance output mode changes useful for control systems that
need to take other actions when this occurs. This new setting is
found in the menu under Other:I/O Setup/RS-232 Setup. When
enabled and an output mode change occurs the Radiance will send
a string reporting the new mode information as if the rs232 mode
inquiry command ("ZQI18" ) had been issued to the Radiance.
Adds rs232 command to set 3D eyeglass polarity, new command is
"ZY48X", where X can be either '-' or '+'.
Production 070111- Adds
ability to genlock sources running at 24/60Hz to 96,120Hz output
refresh rates (although genlocking to 96Hz output is only
appropriate for 60Hz input rate when the input is
interlaced and a film source).
Production 062611- Fix
for stutter/judder issue sometimes affecting video when
genlocked and input/output refresh rates are the same, most
noticeably 24Hz sources with 24Hz output mode. Added 720p96Hz to
output mode list.
Production 062511 Bugfix
for increased video judder occurring in 0602-061611 revisions
with 24Hz in and 24Hz output rate. Added ability to genlock 24Hz
sources to 96/120 Hz output modes. Couple other small bugfixes
and improvements. Updated Documentation-
Production 061011 Big
improvement to the user interface of the output setup command.
It's much more powerful and is now located under the Output
menu----so no need to go wading thru the input menu to set up
the output settings anymore (although we've kept the
output setup command in the input menu for anyone who's used to
finding it there.) With this new command you can do
things, for instance, like quickly check what all the
inputs are using for CMS or if you want to set memory A of all
inputs to use Style3 and leave the other output settings
untouched you can do that easily. We've updated the tables of 8
output modes/CMS's/Styles now to display checkmarks next to
setups that are being used. Also several bugfixes.
Production 060311- Fix
for bug in 060211 firmware that caused a few selection items in
the menu to not be completely readable.
Production 060211 Bugfix
for vertical shift changes sometimes causing a split screen for
some output modes. Bugfix for 1080i-50 side-by-side 3D input
being displayed as 720p100 frame sequential causing judder.
Clock jitter improvement which can improve some display modes on
CRT's and may improve digital displays locking on to the
Radiance output more quickly.
Production 052611- Small
change so the Output:Style: Mask and Output: Style: Shrink
commands allow changing/displaying test patterns with the 'Alt',
'Prev' buttons . When adjustments are made in these
commands and you have an internal pattern up the output will
flip to video but you can flip back to the test pattern by
pressing 'Prev' now.
Production 052511 Bugfix
for not always correctly changing between some 3D output types.
Adds automatic turn-off of video to a display that does not
support 3D if the output video is 3D (this can be overridden by
setting Output:Global Setup: 3D Options: Out is 3D capable to
Yes). Adds a remote control command sequence for input aspect of
1.85 letterboxed in 1.78, press 'Alt' then '1.85'. Improved FPGA
performance for high-performance display modes with '+' option.
Production 051511- Adds
more 3D conversions so frame-packed, top-bottom or side-by-side
sources can all be sent out as side-by-side if desired. The
3D OutSelect command was
updated to reflect this with the addition of a side-by-side 3D type selection. The
optional Quick Keys menu was
changed to always be present (you'll see it at the top level of
the menu) since we've added the manual
selection of 3D types to it (side-by-side/top-bottom/off). There
were previously only direct commands for this which are:
"Menu031" = side-by-side, "Menu032" = top-bottom, "Menu030" =
off. Added the ability to prefix direct commands (like
"Menu031") with the 'Alt' button so the menu does not show up on
screen. This should be useful for programmable remotes or
control systems that wish to keep the menu from momentarily
flashing on.
Production 050311 Bugfix
for 0501-0502 revisions causing audio/3D loss due to the PCH200
fix. Improvement to IR remote handling.
Production 050211- Bugfix
for change in 050111 sometimes causing unreadable menus.
Production 050111 Adds
ability to convert 720p60 frame-packed 3D (common mode for 3D
PS3 games) to 1080p60 side-by-side 3D which is useful for
displays (like the Titan) which aren't optimized for 720p
frame-packed 3D. Bugfix for automatic side-by-side 3D detection
with Popcorn Hour 200. Bugfix for not always restoring ISF
backup. Couple other small bugfixes.
Production 041611- Bugfix
for editing the 2D OutSelect settings in the menu which could
alter the 3D OutSelect 3D type. Some rs232 command updates: new
command ZQI18 replaces ZQI03 for querying current output
configuration. ZQI18 returns out1 on/off status (1/0), out2
on/off status (1/0), output mode selected (C<0-7> for one of
eight output configurations or D<mode_name> for a directly
selected standard mode), output 3D type (0=off, f=auto, 1=frame
seq, 2=frame packed, 4=top-bottom, 8=side-by-side), cms <0-7>,
style <0-7>. ZQI01 was updated to add one additional comma
separated value at end for input 3D type ((0=off, 2=frame
packed, 4=top-bottom, 8=side-by-side). ZQO01 was updated to add
one additional comma separated value at end for input 3D type
((0=off, 1=frame seq, 2=frame packed, 4=top-bottom,
8=side-by-side).
Production 041511 Adds
saturation test patterns (red,green,blue,yellow,cyan,magenta) at
25%,50%,75%. Bugfix for rs232 command 'ZY42....' which did not
use the correct cms index for parameter updates.
Production 041411- Adds
ability to allow 720p side-by-side 3D to be converted to 1080p
side-by-side by selecting 1080p60 as the mode under '3D
OutSelect' and leaving the 3D type as 'auto'. Useful for Titan
projector owners or any other display that doesn't work well
with 720p frame-packed.
Production 041211- Fixed
issue with audio loss using some PC graphics cards, fixes audio
issue with Mozaex movie server and perhaps some other HTPC's and
satellite boxes. Fix for
041111 issue with low-level banding. Fix for limits on output
masking on top edge at 47% for 1080 sources.
Production 041111 Adds
per-input memory on/off control of audio outputs. Using these
settings will override the global audio setup. Bugfix for
0401-0410 firmware with pip and some source resolutions. Bugfix
for 0401-0410 firmware for NLS and some source resolutions.
Bugfix for 041011 screen being green on off or unconnected
inputs.
Production 041011- The
fix for color banding issue in some modes in the 040911 update
was not correct---it is now fixed.
Production 040911 Adds
a menu shortcut to jump directly into the adjustable test patterns,
press "menu6". Fix for audio loss occurrence with
channel/program changes on some cable/satellite boxes. Fix for
not always retriggering source on audio edid changes when
exiting the main audio menu. Fix for warm up test pattern screen
corruption. Fix for color banding issue in some modes and some
audio jitter for 0401-040211 updates.
Production 040211- Fix
for 1080i side-by-side 3D sources. Fix
for broken test patterns in 040111 revision. Fix for manually
setting side-by-side/ top-bottom 3D modes which was not always
working (press "menu 031" for manual side-by-side 3D sources,
"menu 032" for manual top-bottom sources, and "menu 030" to
disable the manual 3D modes. Note that setting a manual 3D mode
is only necessary if the source does not transmit that it's
displaying a 3D mode).
Production 040111 Adds
conversion of 720/1080 side-by-side 3D to frame-packed 3D (need
to have Input:Video Setup:RES:3D OutSelect set to "Auto"). Also
adds converting from side-by-side to frame-sequential 3D (used
by CRT's) and for this you must select an output mode and 3D
type in the 3D OutSelect menu. Note: currently side-by-side 3D
sources cannot be cropped or adjusted for aspect scaling but we
will be adding this ability in soon.
Production 021811- Fix
for color gamut disable/enable not always being set
correctly--only a problem if you're enabling/disabling color
gamut between different CMS configurations.
Production 021711 Fix
for bug in 012011-021611 firmware which left an uncleared
inactive video area when using vertical shift. Fix for some case
of genlocked video that could have an occasional screen tear.
Menu display modified to show current mode/CMS/Style
information.

for problem of output rate match not working for some output
configurations. Fix for spdif/TOS audio in not being detected as
96khz for some 96Khz sources.
Production 021211 An
audio fix for a change in 020711 firmware which broke hdmi audio
for some audio types. Added rate information for coax/tos audio
sources on 2nd page of status display.
Production 021011 Fix
for some newer Panasonic TV's (seen on V20 and VT25) not
displaying 1080p video when Radiance source audio selected was
coax/TOS with the audio source off/unattached. Fix for some
display devices not getting video when they are powered off and
back on with the Radiance power left on.
Production 020911- Fix
for 3D not displaying on Philips 3D displays. Fix for sources
changing between SD/HD (most typically a cable box changing
channels) and sometimes losing picture requiring the Radiance to
be power cycled to correct. Fix for setting output mode pressing
"Menu 02X" on the remote and not completely setting the mode up
which would result in not being able to keep the changed mode on
a power cycle. Fix for some combinations of input and output
modes giving streaks in the video. Other small bugfixes.
Production 020711 For
non 60.0 Hz 720p 3D (which is most 720p 3D sources) the output
settings were incorrectly altered by the 012711 fix for 60.0
change and is now fixed in this update. Fix for setting second
video output "Off" and it displaying as "Copy of Output".
Several other small bugs fixed.
Production 012711- Fixes
issue with 24.0/60.0Hz 3D sources not resulting in the correct
3D output modes (most typically seen with PC sources). Fix for
factory reset when done on analog input leaving a blank picture.
Fix for bad video issue when changing from 24p 3D to analog
input. Other minor changes.
Production 012511 Bugfix
for vertical shift working incorrectly for output modes of
720p or less. Bugfix for using "Auto" output modes with 1080i-3D
source going out as 540p-3D when it should have stayed as
1080i-3D on the output mode.
Production 012311- Fixes
a configuration compatibility issue in 012211 if reverting back
to older firmware. Fixes a couple issues with manual control of
sbs and tb 3D modes for 1080i.
Production 012211 (If you loaded this
update and want to revert to older firmware then update to
012311 first) - Added
manual selection of side-by-side and top-bottom 3D formats which
is sometimes needed when sources don't send a 3D flag over HDMI.
Press "menu 031" for side-by-side, "menu 032" for top-bottom,
and "menu 030" for 2D. Added rs232 command to select
Output Mode, Output CMS, and Output Style. Command format is
"ZY530mcs". where m is the Output Mode select and can be the
character 'K' to keep the current mode or '0'-'7' to select
Output Mode 0-7. After m, c selects Output CMS and can be
be the character 'K' to keep the current CMS or '0'-'7' to
select CMS 0-7. Lastly, s selects the Output Style and can be
the character 'K' to keep the current mode or '0'-'7' to select
Style 0-7. There are several more bugfixes in this update.
Production 012011- Added
frame sequential ability for 3D output for use with 3D on CRT
displays. Menu improvements under the Input:Video Setup:RES menu
area for Output1 and 2 select menus. There are now Output2D and
3D Select menus and under each menu you can setup Output1 and 2.
In the Output3D Select menu you can select 3D output modes as
before but we've added the ability to select the 3D type. The 3D
type can be Auto,TopB (top-bottom),SByS (side by side) ,FrmP
(frame packed), FSeq (frame sequential) and Off. We're still
adding capabilities so not all of these are allowed yet.
Bugfixes for a test pattern issue, mode timing setup issues,
mode information display. Bugfix for setting input color space
and getting a shrunk version of input video. Bugfix for a copy
issue with input memories. Fix for an issue with hotplug and
NuVision displays that could result in a blank screen. Bugfix
for not picking up 720p60 3D on power-up. Some fixes for taking
720p60 frame-packed 3D and driving out 1080p60 left or right eye
only. Changes to Output menu to simplify things a bit with
regards to Out1, Out2 and 3D setup commands. These commands are
all under the heading Global Setup under the Output menu
section. Added rs232 command for setting 3D output for left,
right or both eyes (command format is "ZY47X" where X is L,R or
B). Added another trigger output option.
Beta 121010- Adds
menu shortcuts. Pressing "menu" followed by 1-4 jumps to several
convenient locations in the menu. "menu 1" goes to
Input:Video Setup:RES. Pressing "menu 2" gets to Input:Video
Setup:RES.size:ASPECT. Pressing "menu 3" gets to
Output:CMS:(active CMS). Press "menu 4" to get to
Output:Style:(curr style). We've also added some additional
codes to jump to specific commands in each of these areas.
Here's a table:
Menu10: Input... Black level
Menu11: Input... White level
Menu12: Input... Deint mode
Menu13: Input... Genlock
Menu14: Input... Game mode
Menu15: Input... Reinterlace
Menu16: Input... Enhance sharpness
Menu17: Input... Enhance noise reduction
Menu18: Input... Enhance adaptive contrast
Menu20: Input... Scale bias
Menu21: Input... Vert Shift
Menu22: Input... NLS
Menu23: Input... Mask
Menu30: Output... Gamma factor
Menu31: Output... Current grayscale
Beta 112510- Bugfix
for menu help in the global output setup command. Bugfix for
global output 2 setup changing output 1 instead. Input switching
improvements. Fixup of menu display in side-by-side 3D mode
(DirecTV) and top-bottom 3D modes. Adds 3D to 2D conversion and
the ability to select left or right eye---in the menu under
Output: OutputX: 3D.
Beta 111210- Bugfix
for output Select Mode menu command not changing the mode when
required. Bugfix for global setup of output2. Bugfix for reading
3D capability of JVC projector in "Auto" mode.
Beta 110910- Fix
for incorrect mode display in Select Mode command. Added new 3D
capability setting in the menu under Output:OutputX:3D. The
default is 'Auto' but this can be set to 'Yes' for displays that
support 3D but don't report it via their EDID (the Titan3D is
one such display). This can also be set to 'No' is you wish to
manipulate the Radiance Automatic output mode into not enabling
3D for 3D source material.
Beta 110810- Fixes
up slow power-on issue. Expanded 3D edid for DirecTV
compatibility. Fixes up a display issue seen with Panasonic
VT20/VT25's where colors would sometimes be wrong and audio
would not work. This could also fix up other displays with
similar symptoms. Most likely they would only be 3D displays. We
have got a VT25 and it now works with 422/444 colors, 2 channel
audio and 3D (VT25 does not take Dolby Digital).
Beta 110110- Fix
for audio noise issue on HDMI input 6 for some XD/XE units. Fix
for Pip not working in 102810-102910. Fix for many 3D BluRay
players not recognizing Radiance as 3D capable. Fix for not
flipping into 3D mode sometimes. Bugfix for turning off unit if
HDMI:Type was changed in 102810-102910.
Known issue:
power on until initial video display is slower than 092510.
THIS UPDATE HAS ISSUES WITH COLOR
CALIBRATION please use 102910 or newer updates.
Beta 102810- Adds
support for processing 3D
video to use in combination with 3D sources and 3D capable
displays. Splits output configurations into Mode,CMS, and Style
settings
allowing a more powerful way to mix, match and reuse your output
settings. Auto output modes have been improved such that if the
source changes from 1080p60 to 1080p24 then the output mode will
change to 1080p24 if the display supports it. There have also
been a few small bugfixes.
3D Details: For units
purchased before Oct. 1, 2010 a software key must be purchased
from Lumagen to enable 3D video processing. Email
sales@lumagen for
information on purchasing. In this firmware 3D sources are only
allowed to use the Auto output mode. For 3D the auto output mode
sets the output mode to be the same resolution and rate as the
input mode--so a 1080p24 3D movie will set the output mode to
1080p24 3D.Also Side-by-Side and Top-Bottom 3D modes are not
currently allowed to be scaled (so no cropping, aspect
adjustments). 3D BluRay players and the PS3 are using
frame-packed 3D modes and these can be scaled with this
firmware---so yes, 2.35 movies in 3D with an anamorphic lens
will work.
Output Config Changes: The
8 output configurations have been split into 8 Modes, 8 CMS's,
and 8 Styles. Older setups are converted such that Output Config
0 becomes Mode 0, CMS 0, and Style 0. This split allows for
mixing and matching settings in a much more powerful way. You
can now select a Mode, CMS and a Style individually for each
input memory and input mode in the menu under Input:Video
Setup:RES:OutX Select (previously the output config was selected
in this menu location). Instead of having to set up the 8 output
modes for standard resolutions, you can now directly select an
output mode in the OutX Select menu. You may find it unnecessary
to even set up the 8 output modes unless you have some special
output timings required by your display. Note on reverting to older firmware:
If you mix and match Modes/CMS's/Styles (.ie Mode 0, CMS 3,
Style 6) or use the new directly selectable modes and you revert
to previous firmware versions you will get some different
results since the older firmware does not understand these
selections. We recommend backing up your old configuration to a
PC before updating to this newer firmware as a precaution.
-----2D
+ 3D releases and newer, improved output configuration
functionality ABOVE-----(for 2D or 3D units)
-----2D
only releases with older, less capable output configuration
functionality BELOW----
Production 092510- Bugfix
to allow some non-standard sources to work (was broken in
0915-0916). Small improvement in switching and locking on to
video signal in some cases.
Production 091510- Fix
for problem in 080510 with Coax/Tos/Analog audio in -> Coax
audio out. May improve Coax/Tos/Analog audio in -> HDMI audio
results.
Production 080510- Fixes
for audio/video dropouts which occurred in some systems with the
07XX10 updates. Fix for coax audio in when selected on an analog
video source with inactive video. Couple other minor user
interface improvements.
Production 072210- Small
tweak to the previous update to fix an output sync/loss of video
issue on some units (only seen with 1080p24). If you don't have
an issue with 072110 than updating is not necessary.
Production 072110- A
bugfix specific to the Radiance XE or XS where some input
changes could cause a loss of video on the input (so you would
end up able to see the Radiance menu but not the source). Bug
was seen with a Parasound HDMI switcher in front of an XS/XE but
there may be other sources that also cause this to happen..
Production 072010- A
couple bugfixes to genlock when appropriate and to avoid
stuttering which occurred under some circumstances with non 60Hz
output modes.
Production 071810- Improved
Pop (picture-outside of picture) function for maximally filling
screen when Pop is performed and the aspects had necessitated
sidebars---for instance, if you're watching a 16:9 source on a
2.35 screen and you "pop" up another 16:9 source (if Pop set to
size of 50) the sidebars will be removed to use up the entire
2.35 raster. Prior to this update the two 16:9 sources would
have just filled the area originally occupied by the first 16:9
source, leaving sidebars onscreen.
Adds reinterlacing for 480p and 576p
sources. This can provide dramatic improvements to a picture
that has been poorly deinterlaced prior to coming into the
Radiance. Reinterlacing also allows for taking in 480p/576p
movies and going out at 24/48/72Hz. The new command is under
Input:Video Setup:RES:Control:Reinterlace. With this command you
can "allow" or "disallow" quick remote key control for a
particular resolution as well as turn it on/off. If "Reinterlace
<> Keys" are allowed the left/right arrow buttons on the remote
can then be used to control reinterlacing. The left arrow can
toggle reinterlacing on/off and the right arrow toggles the
field order. Depending on how the picture was deinterlaced,
the field order may or may not be important but it can be
quickly toggled to see if there is any difference. Discrete
commands are available for reinterlacing control as well and
they are "menu 0940"=off, "menu 0941"=on, "menu 0942" = toggle
field order. A new rs232 command was added to arm the right/left
arrow keys for reinterlace control, it is "ZY523X<CR>" where
X='0' disallows, X='1' allows, X='2' allows with onscreen
messages. The discrete reinterlace commands also work as rs232
commands ("M0940","M0941","M0942"). An rs232 command was added
for reinterlacing status, "ZQI17", which returns "!I17X,Y,Z"
where X = 1/0 (on/off) , Y = 1/0 (allow/disallow) for <> keys,
Z= 1/0 (active / not active) to indicate whether reinterlacing
is taking place.
Improved PAL deinterlacing and now allows
"film only" deinterlacing mode to use settings under "Enhance"
menu for 50Hz sources.
Added direct command to set output sync
polarity, "menu 01XY". X=0/1 (-/+ Horiz polarity), Y=0/1 (-/+
Vert polarity). Both outputs set together. Use menu to set them
different from one another.
Upped maximum output pixel clock settable
to 156 Mhz (useful for CRT displays). (Note: XE+ already
has a higher settable pixel clock)
Bugfixes: Bugfix for film mode sometimes
not getting set when changing memories. Bugfix of 1080i-50
component zoom settings causing incorrect cropping on left side.
Loss of input video under rare circumstances fixed. Loss of
output video (depending on configuration) on output 2 fixed. Fix
for inability to alter rate match settings on inactive config.
Input changes to non-hdcp sources were sped up. Copying ouput
aspect from one output config to another fixed. Copying
black/white in output config fixed.
Production 031810- Bugfix
for screen sometimes going black with no menu or video visible
(which could come back if switching to a different input or
turned off and back on). For rs232 users a command was added to
disable displaying the status screen when a <CR> (carriage
return) character is received, press menu 0927 to
disable/enable.
Production 031610- Adds
some more audio formats to the user selectable list in either
the main audio menu or the per-input audio edid menu. Formats
added were PCM 2Ch 192Khz, PCM 5.1Ch 192Khz, PCM 7.1Ch
44.1,48,96,192 Khz, DD+ 5.1Ch,7.1Ch (Dolby Digital Plus), DD HD
7.1Ch (Dolby Digital TrueHD), and DTS HD 7.1Ch.
Production 022110- Fix
for video issue in some XD/XE units caused by a marginal timing
issue in FPGA. Updating not necessary unless you're seeing
consistent/obviously noisy/corrupted video from one or more
sources.
Production 022010- Bugfix
for an audio issue that in some situations could turn hdmi audio
output off when it was set to be on (or on when set to be off).
Production 021910- Bugfix
with for audio issue where non-hdmi audio sources are sometimes
muted on hdmi outputs (no audio)--usually switching to another
input and back would restore audio. Bugfix for an issue with the
main audio menu inadvertently changing the condition. Bugfix for
masking in Pip/Pop window not always working.
Production 021810- Bugfix
for intermittent audio issue which often affected HD audio
formats (bug originated in 011410 update). Bugfix for video
posterization issue occurring in some situations (also
originated in 011410 revision). Bugfix for not being able to
change selections on Other:OnOff Setup:Input Select command.
Production 021310- Bugfix
for bug in 021210 revision that with Pip and certain source
combinations could cause a video source to be lost until
switching to another input and back. Bugfix for output mask
command when used on inactive output configurations.
Production 021210- Adds
Pop (picture-outside of-picture) to the already implemented Pip
command. The 'Pip Setup' command is now called 'Pip/Pop Setup'
and is located under the 'Other' menu. The new 'Pip/Pop Setup'
command now has a 'Type' option where you can select 'Pip', 'PopL'
or 'PopR'. 'PopL' stands for 'Pop Left' so the secondary video
window will be to the left of the main video screen. 'PopR' is
for the secondary video window to be placed on the right. For
Pop you can vertically orient the side-by-side screens to be at
the top, centered or bottom of the picture and adjust the y
position from there. Also some small
improvements to Pip in this update.
Production 012510- Bugfix
for game mode with interlaced inputs only showing top half of
screen (bug occurred at 011410 revision). Bugfix for the Pip
Setup menu command where in a particular situation the values
would jump as you entered the command.
Production 011410- Small
precision improvement in video processing. Can now save last Pip
source/mode per input. Also added a default PiP mode setting under Other:PiP Setup: PiPSel/Mode.
The default Pip mode is initially set to "None" for each pip
source ( which means you stay with the current pip mode as you
change pip sources as it acted previously). If you set the
default pip mode to 1-10 for a particular pip source then when
you select that pip source it will use the assigned default pip
mode. Bugfix for occasionally
powering on with a blank input which could be corrected by power
cycling again. Output sync polarities added under Output:OutputN:SyncPolarity.
Fixed label alignment in input menu.
Pip swap command is completed (audio is
swapped)--the screen now blanks for a couple seconds when
swapping.
Color gamut calibration test patterns (under the 'Color Gamut:By
color' command) can now be 75 or 100 IRE.
Couple other usage improvements.
Some shorter timeouts added for the Pip timeout option
Fix for a horizontal tear with new game mode on+genlock+480p
Fix for selecting inputs 10,11 on new input selection menu
Fix for incorrect display of film/video deinterlacing mode on
status screen (was broken recently when new game mode was added)
Fix for not deactivating Pip mode after Pip has timed out. (so a
number press on the remote was still interpreted as a pip source
after the pip had timed out)
Noise improvement on SD (240p too) analog inputs--completely
eliminated some flickering seen on dark screens using a PS2.
Fix for incorrect vertical cropping with game mode turned on with
progressive sources (seen as scaling differences turning game
mode on/off).
Support added for 240/288p component sources (such as PS2's).
Recommend enabling game mode for these sources.
Added another condition to the output triggers (if output aspect
> 2.00)
Production 111609- Improved
analog component inputs for some sources that had a slight
flicker. Bugfix for setting output1 video off for all mems and
all resolutions which would turn off video on output 2 instead.
Added a "Game Mode" setting for minimizing
video latency. For interlaced sources 480i/576i/1080i are
treated as 240p/288p/540p when enabled. Enable it if needed in the menu under Input:Video
Setup:RES:Control:Game Mode. When game mode is enabled PiP,
Deinterlacing, and Enhance settings are not available.
Added a couple more Pip settings.
"Label" allows disabling the label the comes on for 5 seconds
when the Pip is selected/changed. "Timer" allows setting how
long the Pip stays on when selected (the default leaves it up
until manually turned off).
Added the Input Mask to work with the
Pip window. The ability to mask the Pip along with the new "Timer" setting
allows creation of a special Pip window for an output from an AVR or other
equipment that displays menus. So, for instance, a programmable remote could
turn on the Pip for an AVR when adjusting a volume control and
just the slice of the menu from the AVR with the volume display
could be overlayed onto the screen and after a certain amount of
time (10 sec - 4 minutes) this "volume control" Pip display
would turn off automatically. The input mask command can be
found in the menu under Input:Video
Setup:RES:Size:ASPECT:Masking.
Added an "Input Selection menu option.
Enable this in the menu under Other:Menu Control:Menu Options
with the "Input Menu" setting. If enabled, you can press the
'Input' button the remote to display a list of inputs to select
from. The list is editable.
Added the Pip swap function--used with
the 'Swap' button on the remote.
Production 110209- Bugfix
for changing deinterlacer mode settings incorrectly for inactive
config (this bug was in 110109 only and was caused due to the
addition of the new "video mode" setting). Updated rs232
commands regarding deinterlacer mode settings (for the 'ZQI15'
and 'ZY515' rs232 commands the value of 2 is now used to
indicate "video mode" deinterlacing). The rs232 tech tip will be
updated accordingly. Added
a "Video" deinterlacing mode to the menu under Input:Video
Setup:RES:Control:Deint:Mode . This is a useful option if your
watching cable/satellite type sources and your seeing some
combing. Couple small bugfixes.
Added PiP for analog inputs with the
limitation that if the main window is an analog source then the
PiP can either be the same analog source or an HDMI source. If
the main window is an HDMI source then the PiP can be any

Added a new "Memory Usage" option in
the menu under Other:Memory Usage. Previously when you select a
memory (A-D) you are using it across all inputs, .ie if you're
on input 1A, change to input 2 and press 'MemB' and change to
input 1, you'll be using 1B. We've called this the 'common'
memory usage mode since the memory in use is common across all
inputs. Now you can set the memory usage to
be per-input, so if you're on input 1A and change to input 2
then press 'MemB' and change back to input 1, you'll go back to
1A---it remembers the memory you're on for each input. Either mode can be
used and it depends on what you use the memories for as to which
you might prefer. For example, if you're using memA for settings
adjusted to daytime ambient settings and memB for nighttime then
you'll probably want to stick with the default 'common' mode.
Added aspect and memory control for
the PiP window. Now pressing the aspect or memA-D buttons after
PiP select or mode have been pressed sets the aspect or memory
for the PiP window--note that if you're not using the new
per-input memory usage setting then changing the PiP memory also
changes the main windows memory. Auto-aspect also works for the
PiP now. Note that for the PiP window the 'Letterbox' aspect,
which is defined to be an aspect greater than 4:3 within a 4:3
aspect, is just treated as 4:3 (so you'll see bars on top and
bottom) and similarly the '2.35' aspect, which is defined to be
2.35 inside a 16:9 aspect, is just treated as 16:9 (so again
top/bottom bars are visible).
Added a label to the PiP window that
displays it's input name for a few seconds when the PiP is
accessed with PiP remote buttons like PiP select, mode, etc..
Added a power on input selection
option to the menu under Other:OnOff Setup:Input Select. With
this you can control which input the unit powers up on after
either power is removed or after standby.
Added a small reminder in the menu when settings have been
changed to help remember if you should 'Save' before powering down.
Several bugfixes and some minor additional menu enhancements.
Production 100109- Adds
a new command to tweak deinterlacing quality with an
"Inter-Frame motion detection" setting. This command can be
found under the menu at Input:Video Setup:RES:Control:Deint:IFMD.
The range is 0-15, 0 should minimize combing while 15 maximizes
detail according to the chip specification. The default value is
6. Adds the ability to set HDMI input type. This option is found
in the menu under Input:HDMI Setup:Type. This was always "Auto"
but can now be set manually to RGB, YCbCr422, YCbCr444 as some
DVI outputs use these other formats but can't communicate which
format they're putting out like an HDMI device can.
Default for audio mute was changed to "Long" but this only comes
into play if you load factory default values.
Production 092209-
Some bugfixes for new 12/21 point
grayscale/gamma calibration commands. The biggest issue was a
bug in the copying of the calibrated data between output configs
which could cause either overflow on bright scenes and/or
inability to go back and edit the grayscale for an output
config that had been copied from another. So if you did an
output copy command with revisions 091409 or 092109 you should
recopy the output configs (.ie if you had copied config0 CMS
data to all other output configs then do that again after
loading this update). Also a couple of other small bugfixes
unrelated to CMS.
DON'T USE-Production 092109- Turning
on/off PiP no longer results in momentary onscreen noise. Bugfix
for occasional horizontal line of noise with combing when the
"film only" mode is used with 480i in and the output mode is 60
Hz. Bugfix for pressing the wrong key in one menu command which
would corrupt an entry in the CMS gamut. Bugfix for going from
11 point to 12 or 21 point grayscale for an issue that occurs if
the original points are only 0.5 IRE apart. Bugfix for restoring
an ISF configuration that was saved more than a few months ago.
DONT USE-Production 091409-
Adds 12 and 21 point grayscale/gamma
calibration commands (in the menu, under
Output:Configs:ConfigX:Color Mgmt:Gray/Gamma). If you change
from the 11point to 12 (or 21) your current grayscale
points are not changed and the new points are interpolated
between your currently calibrated points. Bugfix for PiP
sometimes turning on at powerup. A couple of other small
bugfixes.
Production 090609- Bugfix for factory reset setting on input
10 (bug was only in revision 090509).
NOT RECOMMENDED, ISSUE WITH 24P
OUTPUT---Production 090409-
Made some changes to the Rate Matching
feature introduced in revision 072609. Some displays are not
liking 60.00 Hz refresh (show no picture) and only want
59.94Hz so the default is now "off". Also added direct commands
to globally turn rate matching on/off. Pressing "menu 0950" will
turn it off, while "menu 0951" will turn it on for all output
configs. You can individually set the output configs as
before in the menu under Output:Configs:ConfigX:Timing:Rate
Match.
NOT RECOMMENDED, ISSUE WITH 24P
OUTPUT---Production 090309- Bugfix
for audio turning off when PiP was turned on.
NOT RECOMMENDED, ISSUE WITH 24P
OUTPUT---Production 090209-
Adds Picture-in-Picture commands. The OFF,
SEL, and MODE buttons on the remote for PiP now work (SWAP will
be implemented in an upcoming release). Also, only HDMI inputs
are currently allowed in the PiP window (analog inputs in the
PiP window will be in an upcoming release). Here's a short
FAQ on the new PiP feature:
Remote button control for PiP:
SEL: When pressed will turn on the PiP window if not already on.
After pressing SEL, pressing a number selects that input as the
PiP input. Once SEL is pressed you can continue to change the PiP
input by pressing number keys. Once a non-numeric button on the
remote is pressed, pressing a number will switch the main-window
input. MODE: When pressed will turn
on the PiP window if not already on. After pressing MODE,
pressing 0-9 selects one of the 10 PiP modes. The mode controls the
location of the PiP window, its size and its density (aka transparency).
Once MODE is pressed you can continue to change the PiP mode by pressing
number keys. Once a non-numeric button on the remote is pressed,
pressing a number will switch the main-window input. To
change PiP mode settings go to "Other:Pip Setup" in the menu. OFF: Press to turn off the
PiP window. SWAP: Not yet implemented.
Will swap the main window and PiP windows. When swapping the
screen may blank for several seconds.
Production 080109- Bugfix
for change made in 072209 which disabled coax/tos audio in some
cases. Adds increased range to the A2D gain
reduction command used for component inputs. Bugfix for when
sources are turned off or unplugged that would result in green
dashes instead of a black screen.
Production 072609- Adds
"rate matching" for handling sources that generate
24.0/48.0/60.0Hz instead of 23.97/47.95/59.94 Hz. Rate matching
defaults to on and is located under the menu at
Output:Configs:ConfigX:Timing:Rate Match. With this new ability
the output mode is adjusted to match up with the input mode so
that frames are not dropped. This is most noticeable now when a
24.0Hz movie is played with the output set to 23.97Hz. When
enabled the output rate is adjusted to the correct multiple so
if you're at 59.94Hz on the output , a 24.0Hz source would
change your output rate to 60.0Hz. Fixed an issue with spdif
audio in at non 48khz rates to HDMI outputs. Fixed an issue
with automatic display modes (added in 071309) where it would
undesirably revert to 480p.
Production 072209-
Couple of audio issue fixes. Fixed an
issue of the Radiance spdif out going to a McIntosh MX132 prepro.
In the Radiance audio menu a setting of "Basic" for spdif out
will now work with the McIntosh (the "Normal" mode will not , so
use "Basic"). Fixed an issue with the Meridian HD621 audio
processor where it did not see Dolby/DTS from the Radiance
(affected both spdif/TOS and hdmi audio inputs on the Radiance).
Production 071309- Added
new automatic display mode for output. This mode will configure
your output based on information read from the display. The 2
automatic modes are called "auto_p1" and "auto_p2". Since
there are 2 output ports you can choose which one is given
priority for setting the mode, so with "auto_p1", output1 is
checked first for a valid mode, then output 2, and if neither
has a valid mode then 480p is used.
Production 070209- Added
ability to manually override the automatic input aspect. Just
press an input aspect as you normally would and the current
automatic aspect is overridden. You can go back to the current
automatic aspect on the current input by reselecting the current
input or just by pressing the "input" button by itself. There's
also another field in the auto aspect menu which allows a manual
input aspect override to be 'sticky' or not. If 'sticky' is off
and the source sends new input aspect information then the input
aspect will change to the new aspect automatically. If 'sticky'
is on then the manually selected input aspect will be used until
you reselect the current input or press the 'input' button by
itself.
Beta 070109-
Added automatic input aspect selection for
HDMI inputs which can be enabled on a per-input memory basis.
Look for it in the menu under "Input X:HDMI Setup: Auto Aspect".
Added inverse options on output triggers. Added rs232 commands
for input deinterlacing mode ("ZY515") and input vertical shift
selections ("ZY516"). See newly updated
rs232 tech tip
11 for usage details. Couple small bugfixes.
Beta 060209-
More bugfixes for the 052509 revision.
Fixed vertical input masking and vertical shift for "film only"
mode. Fix for chroma resolution loss. Fix for corrupted
horizontal lines in video when using NLS in some cases.
Fixes incorrect colors for HDMI RGB in with PC levels.
Beta 052609-
Fixes
some 601/709 colorspace issues arising from changes in the
052509 revision. Also, a bugfix for case when zoomstep set to 5%
and 2.35 input aspect with 2.35 output aspect resulted in a
slightly scaled image when it should not have been. Couple other
small bugfixes.
Beta 052509-
Replaced "Film Bias" deinterlacing mode
(which was ineffective) with a new "Film Only" mode. This new
deinterlacing mode fixes deinterlacing issues seen in film
sequences from Gladiator to Lord of the RIngs to
Battlestar Galactica (TV shows are often shot as film). In some
film sequences the "Auto" mode incorrectly drops to video mode
which can cause a flickering effect with thin horizontal lines
and can make 24/48/72 Hz output stutter. The new "film only"
mode always stays in film mode and is only engaged with
interlaced sources. Also, when using the new film mode the
settings under the enhance menu are disabled. For
24p/48/24sf/72hz output modes the new film mode is probably the
best option since it's implied with these output modes that
you're watching a film source. Improvement can be seen for 50
and 60Hz output modes with film sources but if you're using a
source that outputs both video and film you may want to use a
different memory to quickly enable it. A new 72Hz output
mode was added. It is 817x1920-71.93Hz and is listed as 817p72
in the mode list. This new mode is ideal for 2.35 movies shown
on a 2.35 display with a 72Hz capable projector. Bugfx for an
HDMI audio output issue. Bugfix for adjusting inactive
graybar level and incorrectly affecting the active graybar. Fix
for an issue of "softness" with svideo and composite sources.
Beta 050509-
Fixes a couple of rs232 command interface
issues (the rs232 output color/hue command for red and green
only worked with output config 0 and if a test pattern was up
and the rs232 power on command was issued then a small cyan box
would appear onscreen.
Beta 050109-
Fixes an issue (only seen on XD's but
could affect XE's as well)
which caused occasional loss of video , sometimes after working
for hours, in revisions 032909-040309. Adds an additional
setting for output audio SPDIF control, the old setting of "On"
is now "On Norm". The newly added setting is "On Basic" and was
found to fix Coax/TOS to an older Yamaha YSP-1100. Adds a
separate timeout option for test patterns in the menu under
Other:Menu Control:Timeouts
Beta 040309-
Audio improvement for format changes (saw
a case with an MC12 going from 96Khz to 48Khz) that would often
cause a short burst of static even with the Radiance long mute
setting. Note that the PS3 connected direct to the MC12 also
gave a burst of static on the format change. A similar issue was
fixed with format changes and some sources resulting in silence.
Another sw fix was made to prevent video stutter with an
inactive component connected to a Radiance output (saw case with
one particular component).
Beta 032909-
Improvements in fpga timing to fix some
occasional video noise issues in some systems. Fixes an issue
with the color on HDMI inputs (using RGB colorspace) being slightly off in revisions
0208-0316.
Beta 031609-
(replaces 031509 which had an issue with
genlock) Previous update had some marginal timing
on video outputs. Also a bugfix for video tear towards top of
picture that occurred under some conditions (the case we
were looking at was with 576i and letterbox aspect). Also fixed
a bug where sometimes the input mode was not correctly detected.
Bugfix for turning genlock off/on between memories on an input.
Beta 030309-
Bugfix for video noise issue (intermittent
flash of lines) that occurs with some sources and was also
dependent on the Radiance configuration. Couple other small
bugfixes. Added another setting for output triggers in
order for correct results when using rs232 control, the new
setting for the output triggers i s "Under RS232 control". Added
3 new color test patterns (desaturated red, green and blue). The
patterns are intended for CMS calibration. The patterns use 75%
(191/255 if using 8bpp values) for the patterns primary color
and 37% (96/255 using 8bp) for the other 2 primaries. So for the
desaturated red pattern, r=75%, g=37%, b=37%. Added a new rs232
test pattern command ("ZY7T") to access all test patterns see
updated
rs232 tech tip
11 (old rs232 commands accessed most but not all).
Added rs232 command to control output color format ("ZY46"), see
rs232 tech tip.
Beta 021109-
Quicker restarting of audio on picture
format changes and audio interruption seen on set-top boxes with
channel changes or skipping through recorded material. A new
per-input menu setting was added for this called Mute Control
and it's under Input:Audio Setup. Can be set to "Short" or
"Long" and will default to Short. Bugfix for an issue with
passing back video EDID from a display to the source (bug
present in 0126-0207).
Beta 020709-
Bugfix for 012609-020209 firmware relating
to video noise issues and 24p output not working on some
systems. Bugfix for purple/green screen sometimes occurring.
Audio fix for switching between 2 multi channel PCM sources and
losing some channels. Bugfix for DirectTV HDMI audio in not
working on latest releases. Bugfix for blanked screen being left
green.
Beta 020209-
Bugfix for hw precision improvements in
012609-020109 revisions that could cause horizontal streaking in
some scenes. Bugfix for switching to an input and sometimes
getting incorrect color (in one case switching to component and
getting pinkish color with the input type getting set to Scart
incorrectly).
Beta 013009-
Bugfix for HDMI audio format change
problem in 012609 sw. Added rs232 command to toggle HDMI inputs'
hotplug (ZY520) -see updated
rs232 tech tip
11 .
Beta 012609-
Some small precision improvements in
programmable video datapath. Fix for a case of passthru video
EDID which would result in no video. Bugfix for setting
black/white on inactive output config which didn't always work
correctly. Bugfix for audio issue with Halcro SSP220. (This
replaces 012509 release posted yesterday)
Beta 110708-
Initial software release for RadianceXE.
Expanded version of RadianceXD softrware. Added ability to
passthru Dolby TrueHD and DTS HD audio.
